THE DAYS THAT HAVE TO HAPPEN TO YOU
Premiere 24 March 2023, the stage of the Nova Gorica High School
The Days That Have to Happen to You is a production devised on the motifs from the YA novel Looking for Alaska by the American writer John Greene (Ljubljana, Mladinska knjiga, 2014, translated by Ana Barič Moder). The production is made up of days. One hundred and thirty-six days before and one hundred thirty-six days after. One school year and one new kid, who, fed up with the constant boredom of his comfortable life, sets off to find the “big maybe” – everything his life could be if he stepped out of his comfort zone.
Five friends accept Maj into their group in the new school – Colonel, Sara, Takumi, Lara and Alaska. Together, they do things that simply have to happen to you. They learn lessons of loyalty and responsibility, betrayal and guilt. They rebel against authority and carry out a big “operation” … But faced with an event that shakes their group to the core, they are forced to confront transiency and the finality of the end. All this has to happen within the genre mix of charm and tragedy that is life.
